A handheld recorder built-in stereo pair is designed to capture everything in front of it, which is exactly wrong when you want one voice and not the café around it. The SGH-6 swaps that stereo pair for a directional shotgun element, so the recorder favors what it is pointed at and pushes the surroundings back. On a noisy location that is the difference between a usable interview and an unusable one.

Because the capsule connects directly to the recorder, there is no XLR cable, no phantom power setting, and no separate microphone to rig — the entire kit is a recorder with a shotgun on top, small enough to hold in one hand or mount on a camera.
