About the Auray BP-28CC:
Rent the Auray BP-28CC carbon fiber boompole in Los Angeles from F22 Studios. The BP-28CC is a five-section internally cabled boom pole designed for narrative dialog, documentary and interview work, corporate and event shoots, and any production where a boom operator needs reach without carrying a heavy aluminum pole all day.
Carbon fiber is the reason to book this one over a metal pole. At roughly 1.4 pounds it is dramatically lighter than aluminum at the same length, which translates directly into steadier microphone placement in the back half of a long take, and it is stiffer, so the tip flexes and wanders less at full extension. Over a twelve-hour day that weight difference is the difference between an operator who is still precise at hour ten and one who is fighting the pole.
The pole runs an internal coiled XLR cable with a bottom exit. The microphone connects at the tip, the recorder connects at the handle, and nothing runs down the outside of the tube to swing into frame, slap during a move, or transmit handling noise into a live microphone. The head tip is removable so the cable can be serviced rather than retiring the pole.
Five sections collapse it to about 2.2 feet for transport and extend it to roughly 7.7 feet in use — enough to cover a seated two-shot or stay above a walking master while packing into a standard equipment case. An anti-twist tube design and ergonomic twist locks make one-handed extension practical, and the collars operate quietly, which matters when the microphone is inches away.
The tip uses a standard 3/8″-16 thread, so it accepts our shock mounts and any of our shotgun microphones.
