The IFBlue A1 is a compact, single-channel wireless IFB bodypack receiver from Lectrosonics, designed for narrative and commercial video village monitoring, agency and client audio feeds, wireless talkback for talent, live event and multi-camera production, ADR and Foley session monitoring, and any production where multiple people need to hear the same audio feed wirelessly.
The killer feature is compatibility. The IFBR1C-A1 works out of the box with the Lectrosonics IFBT4 transmitter and with any Digital Hybrid Wireless transmitter running in IFB-compatibility mode — meaning the same wireless system your sound mixer already uses for talent lavaliers can double as an IFB program-feed transmitter. That eliminates the need for a separate IFB base station on many productions, saving both money and rack space in the sound cart.
Operating in the A1 block (470 to 537 MHz), the receiver stores up to 10 frequency presets in memory for quick channel changes across multi-day shoots, and includes a clear LCD interface for on-the-fly programming, plus a USB port for periodic firmware updates. Audio quality is where the IFBR1C shines relative to older IFB technologies: ±20 kHz FM deviation for efficient bandwidth usage combined with compandor noise-reduction circuitry delivers an excellent signal-to-noise ratio. You hear cues and program audio clearly, not fighting through hiss and RF noise.
A supersonic Pilot Tone signal controls the audio output squelch to keep the receiver silent when no transmitter signal is received, preventing the startling static bursts that can make wearing an IFB unpleasant — important when the client is standing three feet from talent trying to hear the take. High-sensitivity receiver design provides extended operating range both indoors and outdoors, and simple one-knob operation for on/off and audio level makes it easy for non-technical users (directors, agency creatives, script supervisors) to operate without training or documentation.
The receiver ships with rechargeable AA batteries and dock charging capability, so a full production team can be topped up overnight and ready to shoot in the morning.
