About the Audio-Technica AT897:

Rent the Audio-Technica AT897 in Los Angeles from F22 Studios. The AT897 is a compact line + gradient condenser shotgun designed for ENG and documentary crews, corporate and event video, interview work in noisy environments, on-camera shooting, and any production that needs a directional mic short enough to keep out of a tight frame.

The line + gradient design gives the AT897 a narrow acceptance angle: it favors sound arriving from directly in front while rejecting sound from the sides and rear. In practice that means an interview subject in a convention hall, a busy street, or a live event stays intelligible while the surrounding noise drops back. At roughly 11 inches long it is noticeably shorter than a full-size shotgun, which makes framing easier on close two-shots and camera-mounted work.

Power is flexible — the AT897 operates on a single AA battery or on 48V phantom power — so it drops into a bag with a Zoom recorder, onto a mixer, or onto a camera that supplies no phantom. A switchable low-frequency roll-off helps control wind and rumble on exteriors.

Practical use cases include ENG and news gathering, documentary and corporate interviews, event and conference coverage, on-camera dialog, and second-mic duty on multi-camera shoots. Ships with a windscreen and pairs well with our boom poles, Zoom recorders, and camera packages. Available now for rental at F22 Studios in Burbank, serving productions across greater Los Angeles.
