Shooting with the Sony F900
The F900 is a piece of cinema history — the HD camera used on early digital features when the industry was still deciding whether digital could hold up. A 3-CCD system with B4 mount and Sony colour science, it renders in a way that is distinctly of its era. Productions book it for period accuracy, for narrative work chasing early-digital texture, and occasionally for the pleasure of shooting on it.
B4 mount, so it pairs with our broadcast glass rather than cinema PL lenses. We will quote the right lenses alongside it.
Sony F900 Rental FAQs
What lenses does the F900 take?
B4 mount broadcast lenses. We carry Canon and Fujinon B4 glass in Burbank and will put the package together with the body.
Why shoot on an F900 now?
Character and authenticity. It has a specific early-digital-cinema look, and for projects referencing that era it is more convincing than trying to grade modern footage backwards.
