About the Zoom F6:

Rent the Zoom F6 in Los Angeles from F22 Studios. The F6 is a compact six-input multitrack field recorder built for narrative production sound, documentary bag work, commercial and corporate shoots, multi-camera events, and any production that needs professional multitrack audio with timecode in a package small enough to wear all day.

The F6 headline feature is 32-bit float recording. Each input runs through dual A/D converters with different gain structures, and the recorder combines them into a 32-bit float file with enormous dynamic range. In practice that means you stop guessing at gain: a whispered line and a slammed door in the same take both land in the file intact, and levels get set in post rather than lost on set. For run-and-gun documentary work where you cannot rehearse a subject, that alone changes how the day goes.

Six locking XLR/TRS combo inputs feed Zoom high-quality preamps, each with 48V phantom power available, and the recorder captures up to 14 tracks at once — six ISO channels plus a stereo mix, with additional routing options. Files record to SD card in WAV, and the compact chassis fits comfortably in a sound bag alongside wireless receivers.

Timecode is where the F6 earns its keep on set. Built-in timecode in and out with an accurate internal generator keeps audio locked to camera across long takes and multi-camera setups, which saves real hours in post compared to syncing by clap or waveform. The F6 also runs on Sony L-series batteries, AA cells, or USB power, so powering it in a bag or on a cart is straightforward.

Practical use cases include narrative production sound with a boom and multiple lavs, documentary bag work, interview setups with several subjects, live event and panel recording, music and performance capture, and as a backup recorder alongside a larger cart. Pairs naturally with our Schoeps CMIT 5U and Sennheiser MKH-416 shotguns, Lectrosonics and Sennheiser wireless systems, and any of our boom poles. Available now for rental at F22 Studios in Burbank, serving productions across greater Los Angeles.
