The XLR-K3M is a dual-channel XLR adapter kit designed for Sony mirrorless and cinema-line cameras, turning an FX3, FX30, a7S III, or similar body into a camera with proper professional audio inputs for documentary, corporate, event, and run-and-gun work.
The core problem it solves is that compact Sony bodies have excellent picture and limited audio connectivity — typically a 3.5mm input and modest preamps. The XLR-K3M mounts on the Multi Interface Shoe and adds two full-size XLR/TRS inputs with switchable 48V phantom power, independent gain controls, and line/mic level selection, so a boom microphone and a wireless receiver can both feed the camera cleanly.
What sets the K3M apart from earlier adapters is the digital audio interface. Rather than converting to analog and feeding the camera 3.5mm input, it passes audio to compatible bodies digitally through the shoe, keeping the signal out of the camera analog preamps entirely. On a quiet interview that difference is audible in the noise floor.
The kit ships with a Sony shotgun microphone and mount, so a single-operator crew can walk out with camera, adapter, and microphone as one package. Physical gain knobs mean levels get set by hand rather than through camera menus — much faster when a subject turns out louder than expected.
