The NTG4+ is a professional supercardioid shotgun microphone designed for documentary and ENG crews, corporate and interview work, run-and-gun single-operator shooting, on-camera use with DSLR and mirrorless bodies, and any production that wants clean dialog without depending on phantom power from the camera.
The headline feature is the built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery, which delivers up to 150 hours of use from a single charge over standard USB. For camera-mounted work — where many DSLR and mirrorless bodies supply no phantom power at all — that means the mic simply works, and it keeps working across a multi-day shoot without a bag of AAs. Full 48V phantom operation is still supported when you are running into a mixer or field recorder.
The NTG4+ uses digital switching for its onboard controls: a high-frequency boost for compensating windshield losses, a high-pass filter for cutting handling and traffic rumble, and a -10dB pad for loud sources. Because the settings are digital, they’re remembered when the mic powers down — no more discovering mid-take that yesterday’s filter is still engaged. Low self-noise and a tight supercardioid pattern keep dialog clean and focused with plenty of room tone rejection.
At roughly 176 grams the NTG4+ is light enough for long boom days and small enough not to dominate a compact camera rig. Practical use cases include documentary interviews, corporate and event work, YouTube and social production, second-unit and B-camera audio, and as a reliable backup shotgun on larger narrative packages.
