Rent the Aputure STORM 1200x in Los Angeles from F22 Studios. The STORM 1200x is Aputure’s flagship high-output bi-color LED fixture, designed for feature films, commercials, television production, music videos, and large-scale interviews. Built around Aputure’s proprietary BLAIR chipset and rated for full exterior use, it represents the state of the art in high-output LED lighting.
At full power, the STORM 1200x produces 24,000 lux at 3 meters, delivering output comparable to many 1.8K HMIs while providing the advantages of modern LED technology — instant color temperature adjustment, full dimming, lower power consumption, and significantly less heat. That means one fixture can key a subject through 4×6 or 6×6 diffusion frames for large soft sources, punch through windows for daylight simulation, or light up large exterior night scenes where you’d previously need multiple HMI heads — without generators, ballast noise, or long strike times.
Aputure’s proprietary BLAIR chipset combines Blue, Lime, Amber, Indigo, and Red emitters to produce an unusually full light spectrum. The result is cleaner skin tones, improved color separation, higher SSI scores, and significantly better rendering of difficult colors compared to traditional bi-color LED fixtures. CRI and TLCI both rate at 95, with SSI 87 at both 3200K and 5600K — numbers that hold up across multi-camera shoots and demanding color pipelines like ARRI ALEXA and RED V-Raptor.
Physically, the STORM 1200x is built for the realities of production. The IP65-rated construction shrugs off rain, dust, and salt spray, making it a genuine location tool that doesn’t need to be babied on exteriors. The Bowens mount accepts the same modifier ecosystem that has grown up around Aputure’s LS-series — Fresnel 2X, Spotlight Mount, F10 barn doors, Light Domes, and Lantern softboxes all attach without adapters. It draws 1,440W at the wall, so it’s easy to plan power runs, and full remote control is available via the Sidus Link app, DMX, or the on-board controls.
