Shooting with the ARRI Ultra Prime
Ultra Primes are the set most DPs will name if you ask them for a dependable Super 35 prime package. They are not showy — that is the point. Consistent colour and contrast across the whole set means you can cut between focal lengths without anyone noticing the lens changed, and T1.9 gives you enough speed for practical interiors without pushing the sensor. They have shot an enormous amount of narrative and commercial work, and they remain a safe recommendation when a project needs to look professional rather than stylised.
If you want character rather than neutrality, ask us about the Zeiss Super Speeds or one of the vintage sets instead — same rental conversation, very different image.
ARRI Ultra Prime Rental FAQs
Are Ultra Primes a good choice for narrative work?
They are one of the most common choices for it. Consistent rendering across the set and neutral colour make them easy to light for and easy to cut, which is exactly what most narrative productions want.
Will Ultra Primes cover a full-frame sensor?
They are designed for Super 35 coverage. If you are shooting large format, talk to us — we carry Tokina Vista Ones, Sigma full-frame primes and several vintage sets that cover it properly.
