Shooting with the Canon CN-E 18-80mm Compact

The CN-E 18-80mm Compact Servo is designed for exactly the crews that need a cine zoom without cine-zoom weight. It is parfocal, covers Super 35 and APS-C, and holds a constant T4.4 through the range, with servo control for smooth zooms. On a C-series body it feels like the lens the camera was designed around — light enough for handheld and gimbal, capable enough for professional delivery.

T4.4 is on the slower side. In low light, plan a little more illumination than you would with a T2 zoom, or ask us about a faster alternative.

Canon CN-E 18-80mm Compact Rental FAQs

Is the 18-80mm parfocal?

Yes, it holds focus through the zoom range, which is a significant practical advantage over stills zooms for documentary and event work.

Is T4.4 a limitation?

It depends on the job. For daylight exteriors and lit interiors it is fine; for available-light night work, the Sigma T2 zooms or a fast prime set would serve you better.
